DREAM'S DO COME TRUE

I bought this bike in April, 1969 while I was still in high school. I saw the movie Easyrider in November 1969 and when I saw the Captain America bike, I told myself that someday I was going to build the now most famous bike ever built. Since I am a construction worker and raising a family, it took a lot longer than I had originally planned. In April of 1997 I finally started my life dream and set a date to finish it by April 1998, so I would be able ride it to the Laughlin Nevada River Run. I finished the bike in May and took it to a bike and car show in Phoenix Arizona, and it took First Place!

Probably the most important thing happen to me with the bike was when I was told that Peter Fonda needed a bike in Seattle Washington for a benefit for a friend of his who was in a motorcycle accident. The benefit was for his medical bills. So I gave them my phone number and in two day's I got a phone call inviting my wife and I up there. I wasn't able take the bike to the Nevada show because I thought this was much more important.

When I started building this bike, I hoped that just maybe, someday Peter Fonda might see the bike, but to get to meet him and let him use the bike, was a dream come true.

I have been told by a lot of people, including the man from California that built the original seat, that this bike was near perfect. To get a compliment from Peter Fonda on how good it looked and how close the bike was to the one he had in the movie was the best.

I want thank him, first for using my bike and second, thank him and his wife Becky for being so nice to my wife and I while we were up there. I have seen Peter and talked to him several times since then. What a nice guy, just the person I hoped and thought he would be.

In closing I would like to say that I took the bike to Sturgis this year (1998) and it was a big hit there. Lot's of photos were taken of the bike on the street and I was asked to use it at the Pyramid Bar and Grill on Main Street for the Penthouse Girls and the Hooter girls.

I was also asked to use the bike for the Steel Cowboy's out of Nashville TN  for a CD cover and for a Calendar. I met some nice people from there and it was a thrill that they ask me to use the bike for the Steel Cowboy's Volume Two.

While there I also met Randee Peterson from Spearfish S.D He took some photos of my bike for this Internet Site. I would like to thank him for putting my photos and story on the Internet  Thanks Randee!
