Reservoir Dogs all over again.
Not not true at all Copperhead, anybody that's had any weapon training at all knows:
1: Never pull a weapon unless you know the situation and believe lethal force is warranted to protect a life
2: Never point a weapon at a person, it should always be aimed downwards unless you are in the process of firing
3: You should only use a weapon as a last resort, when no other option is available to difuse the situation
In essence, if I were to see (a) holding a gun on (b) who is threatinging the unarmed (c), I'd first dial 911, then I'd either simply put my hand on my weapon without drawing it unless warranted but being prepared to act if needed, or I'd pull my weapon, keeping it aimed down and in the direction of (b) to back up (a) but only after accessing the situation and being clear in my mind that I was doing the right thing.
I got my permit yesterday, here in Alabama, and it was so easy it scared me a little. I printed out the application from the sheriff's website, filled it out and took it and $20 to the county sheriff's office. Gave them the app, the cash and my driver's license, fully expecting them to say I'd hear from them in six weeks or so. Instead I was told to have a seat while they ran my license for warrants, ran my social for the same, then they took my picture and handed my my concealed carry permit. I was there for maybe 20 minutes. Alabama doesn't run a federal background check like some states and doesn't require any type of weapons safety or carry course like most other states do. Luckily I've had training, and would probably pursue it anyway if I hadn't before I began carrying.
I'm 46, and while I've had weapons in my home since I was 21, I just never felt the need to carry before. Now I travel a little more, and being disabled I worry more about being seen as an easy target when traveling on the bike away from home. I would emplore anyone that wants to carry legally by getting a permit to take a weapons safety course on their own if their state doesn't require it. The reason a lot of states give for not honoring Alabama's carry permit is the fact that no federal background check is done and no trianing is required. I'm all for nationwide reciprocity, but I believe nationwide standards requiring training shoud be put in force as well. For all the county sheriff's office knew, I'd never even held a gun and now I can carry concealed legally, scary.

I'd rather have and not need than need and not have.
