I noticed some people have said that they have DUI checks in South Dakota? How does that work? Do they stop every bike and check there papers and make them take a breathalyzer?

So if one does not have a drivers liscence, it would be risky to drive through South Dakota?

Probably risky to go anywhere without a license...

I am good to go. It's a friend of mine that wants to ride and I had my doudts. Now, I can tell him to stay home because they have check spots. Been doing allot of reading on the boards and want to thank you all for the info. Lot's of great advice!

they dont set up blocks and check everyone... its more spot checks... never been checked myself, mostly cause I don't ride much after dark, obey the traffic laws, and make sure I'm tracking a straight line, been there 6 times now... by brother on the other hand has only been there twice and he's been stopped 3 times, the excuse is he handle bars are a little high, have not given him a ticket yet, but each time they checked him for everything else ya can thing of, looking for booze, drugs, license, etc....

thought ya said on the other thread ya was renting a bike for your trip... every place I know to rent will not rent without the proper MC endorsement anyway... so if ya don't have a license.. ya better get one ;)

Smoke, thanks for the info! I am buying a bike. Might be getting it this fall. Don't know yet, if I am going to be able to wrap up this deal, but if I can't then for sure, I will have one in the Spring.

:D Hi all, we will be there Friday and Saturday at the end of the 2012 rally. I know we will miss most of the fun :( but please tell me not all. Any concerts and activities take place that late? I'm excited to come and have an experience of a lifetime! 8) Thanks!

know the chip has bands every night thru Saturday... pretty sure the throttle does too... Saturday is the "official" last day, and a lot of the venders prices drop so they don't have to pack it all back home.. especially anything dated like t-shirts... 2 days aint much time if ya want to do any riding (the best part imho), most everything will still be open well into the next week if ya can stay longer, but no more bands, or planned events... just bars, some venders, and the rides, with smaller crowds so ya can actually enjoy the riding more ;)

To realy experience Sturgis, you ought to go a week early and stay the two weeks through the rally. Do that two years in a row and you'll just about have enough time to take it all in. Two days may just be frustrating. My 2¢ worth. 8)
