best way to do it Rebel R and you picked a good one, if you come down the hill city way and loop out threw keystone the town is partying and its an easy grab to the 90, weather can change alot,
I'm not totally perfect, but some parts are.

 Has anyone taken Cemetary road to old stone road to get around the gridlock downtown? And if so does it save you any time?

For those who like the Spearfish Canyon ride, start from the north and continue (right turn) onto route 85 south into Wyoming and stop in Buckhorn - a great little one-building town (bar/restaurant). Continue on 85 south into NewCastle and on to Custer.

It's gravel, speed limit is slow, they set up radar and DUI checks on it and it can be very dusty. BUT...traffic keeps moving.

Actually took that road for the first time last year after doing Spearfish Canyon Rd.
85 is actually a really nice road from 14A going towards the Four Corners and than on to Newcastle. Not much traffic on it, good scenery and some good overlooks along the way. We went all the way down to Newcastle and than drove across on 16 to Custer.

and if you don't want to do the ride all the way to Newcastle the road from Four Corners to Sundance is real scenic...real nice ride on a hot day...not many bikes either.

Must-do's for Newbies

Unread postby RaceyRee » Sat Apr 26, 2008 9:03 pm

:D Needles Highway, all roads around Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon. Go do Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, and ride the 1880 train in Keystone or Hill City. Do downtown Sturgis, take lots of pictures and keep your eyes open for perty girls.

 Never, and I mean NEVER -- think about moving to the Black Hills like we did. We owned our house for four years. Spent 14 years coming to Sturgis before we bought the house. Everything was hunky dory. We moved into our house and you'd have thought we were selling crack on the corner -- hassles by the cops, people who wouldn't smile or talk to you when you smiled and tried to make conversation with them. Soured me. Sold my house and left South Dakota. I'll hang with the nice bikers I normally hang with, and I may eventually decide to give South Dakota another chance, but just for a short vacation. And I won't give them any of my money.

Caves

Unread postby big mean » Wed Jul 09, 2008 8:22 am

I dont think it has been mentioned, but the caves around the black hills are really cool. Jewel cave, Wind cave, Rushmoore cave are a few I can think of right off hand.

Ride out onto the prairie, hwy 79 north past Bear Butte then 212 west stopping at the Nisland Bar for the cheapest coldass beer around ($2.50 btl), new improved beer garden with a roof added for shade and there's this new pole...I think ya catch my drift. Bar manager has a free camping area if you partake of too many adult beverages with room for an RV, camper, tent or just your ass. Portapots only no hookups. Best little western party you'll find off the beaten trail!

Watching the sun come up with a friend and a cold one.
Seeing the mist rising on Pactola Lake.
Watching one of your buddies try a burnout with the disc brake lock still on (and not get hurt). (I know I'm a little twisted)
