Vietnam will be followed by consecutive additions to the series featuring WWII, Korea, The Gulf War and Iraq/Afghanistan. The title expresses the definition of the book. "Privilege" represents exclusive stories and experiences from veterans of all services--only these veterans have that privilege. "Of the Brave" describes the men and women who served in those campaigns.
NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL SEPT 2012
Privilege of the Brave: Vietnam is an exciting and revealing collection of stories written by the soldiers who experienced this tragic time in our nation's history. This anthology is a necessity for veterans, as well as the families and friends who had loved ones, neighbors, friends or acquaintances in the Vietnam War. The book's content is diverse, containing stories that are humorous or heart-rendering, in addition to dramatic and historical accounts of battles, bravery, and personal challenges that faced members of all branches of the service. Some of the memoirs remember a moment in combat that continues to haunt them, while others recall their lives after Vietnam and how they were treated when they returned home. The attitude of the America that sent them to war and the America that greeted them when they returned was a painful reality that is documented in the book by many veterans. As one soldier sadly described it, "Nobody wanted us there. And nobody wanted us when we got home. We were walking ghosts." Included in the book is an exclusive chronological account of over 55 Vietnam veterans who had previously documented personal experiences from their high school years and continuing through the draft process, induction into the military, their combat experiences, and how they were treated when returning home. These soldiers wrote their stories 20 years after the war in 1991. We've re-contacted some of them to get the next installment 1991-2011. This unprecedented chronology is testimony to the trials and tribulations they experienced before, during, and after the Vietnam era. This is the first anthology personally written by combat veterans that covers this scope of time in intimate and revealing detail. Over 2,500,000 Americans were involved in combat while in Vietnam. Less than 800,000 are alive today. Of the original 55 authors who recounted their stories, some have passed away, a few have taken their own lives, while others remain active in military unit associates and veteran's causes. The combination of their stories, along with hundreds of others gathered from veterans, families and friends, has come together in this collection of personal events from 1964 to 2011, offering a new level of awareness and compassion for those who experienced the Vietnam War. These soldiers are the privileged and the brave.
